Cam Sutton of the Detroit Lions is wanted for domestic abuse in Florida.
TAMPA, Florida: Authorities in Florida requested clues on Wednesday in an attempt to locate Detroit Lions defensive back Cameron Sutton, who is sought on a domestic violence warrant.
On the social networking site X, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, which covers Tampa, stated that the warrant was issued for domestic violence by strangulation, a third-degree felony with a maximum five-year prison sentence. According to the sheriff’s office, Sutton could be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a Florida license plate.
According to Phil Martello, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, the department responded to a complaint of domestic violence in progress between Sutton, 29, and a female around five in the morning on March 7. This was reported by the Detroit Free Press.
According to Martello, who spoke with the newspaper, authorities believe Sutton has left Tampa and issued the warrant based on the evidence they discovered. He added that attempts to get in touch with him and give him a call had failed.
“Every effort has been made by our investigators to contact him,” Martello declared.
It wasn’t apparent if Sutton had legal representation. David Canter, Sutton’s agent, did not respond right away to an email or text message. Additionally, a voicemail on a phone that officials said belonged to Sutton was left.
Although the sheriff’s department’s warrant was largely obscured, it did name a house he owned in Dunedin, Florida, which is located on the Gulf Coast, and property records identify him as the owner.
A little over a year ago, the Lions signed Sutton to a three-year, $33 million contract, seeing him as a crucial player to add in the offseason. For the first time since 1957, he assisted the team in winning two playoffs games and a division title in the same postseason for the first time in thirty years.
The Lions released a statement saying, “We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning.” “We’ll keep an eye on the situation and won’t be making any more comments at this time.”
Sutton started in all one of Detroit’s three postseason games as well as all 17 regular season games, recording a career-high 65 tackles and one interception.
Sutton had five interceptions with 95 tackles while starting 31 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and 2022. The Jonesboro, Georgia-born former Tennessee standout was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Over his career, he has nine interceptions in 101 games.
