Patrick Mahomes Announces Departure and present Another Significant issue
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown of the Ravens and Sammy Watkins, the wide receiver, prior to the Steelers game.
The Baltimore Ravens’ path to the Super Bowl just become a bit more challenging on Thursday, March 14. The Kansas City Chiefs, the Ravens’ primary AFC rival, added Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in a significant free agency signing.
“A new weapon for Patrick Mahomes: Former Ravens and Cardinals WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, per sources,” wrote ESPN’s Adam Schefter on X.
The Chiefs may have improved after winning the Super Bowl in 2023–2024 as opposed to remaining the same.
“Comp update: Chiefs are giving Hollywood Brown a one-year deal worth up to $11 million,” Schefter confirmed later. WR Rashee Rice was starting to show up toward the end of the season and in the playoffs, but overall, he is joining one of the Chiefs’ lesser units.
With Rice, Brown, and Travis Kelce as his tight end, Mahomes may not be done acquiring.
This is comparable to when they signed WR Juju Smith-Schuster to be their primary wide receiver before the 2022 campaign.
Since Tyreek Hill left to join the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs have been rotating wide receivers in an attempt to find a legitimate No. 1 to go with the explosive Kelce.
Despite this, the Chiefs have continued to win.the past two Super Bowls with a rotating cast of receivers.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown Hopes to Get Better in Kansas City
Brown, who was selected by the Ravens in the first round of the 2019 draft, was a reliable weapon for quarterback Lamar Jackson.
“In his last season in Baltimore in 2021, Brown had 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns,” Schefter reported.
Throughout his three seasons with the Ravens, Brown gained experience with each passing season and finished with 195 receptions, 2,361 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns.
The receiver was not content with his position in Baltimore’s run-first scheme, so the Ravens traded him to the Arizona Cardinals following the 2021 season.
The Cardinals anticipated that by combining Brown with DeAndre Hopkins and Kyler Murray, they would have a potent offensive line that would enable Brown to advance. Unfortunately, Brown and his goal were never realized.
According to Schefter, Brown caught 118 passes for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns in 26 games spread across two seasons in Arizona.
The team’s outcomes were inconsistent as a result of injuries to Brown and Murray. He will now rejoin the AFC as the NFL’s top quarterback and have an opportunity to get back to the 1,000-yard mark he attained in 2021.
Chiefs Still the AFC Favorites Over the Ravens
The idea behind the Ravens’ acquisition of RB Derrick Henry was that they would be able to catch up to or maybe surpass the Chiefs to become the AFC favorites.
After losing to the Chiefs 17-10 in the AFC championship game the previous season, the Ravens were unable to reach their Super Bowl goal this year.
Nevertheless, when the Chiefs signed Brown, Vegas Insiders now has the Chiefs with better odds than the Ravens for both the AFC championship and Super Bowl.
With +360 odds, the Chiefs are the clear favorite to win the AFC title, followed by the Ravens at +425 odds. Since there isn’t much of a difference, Brown’s acquisition could have favored the reigning winners.
The Chiefs are ranked first at +600, while the Ravens are ranked third at +900 in the Super Bowl odds. At +500, the San Francisco 49ers are the team with the best chances to win the Super Bowl right now.
