Done Deal: Steelers Sealed the Deal Between Kenny Pickett and Eagles
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers are moving quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh will give up Pickett and the No. 120 overall pick in exchange for the deal, which will net them two 2025 seventh-round selections and the No. 98 overall selection.
It signals the conclusion of Pittsburgh’s bumpy journey with Kenny Pickett. Pickett is no longer with Pittsburgh after just two seasons with the group. Russell Wilson will then be able to take the starting job.
According to Schefter, the Steelers had told Pickett that they intended Wilson to take over as the main quarterback and that Pickett would have liked to be dealt if the team signed Wilson. Steelers Now was informed by sources that Pickett did not insist on a trade, but he did desire one.
Omar Khan admitted earlier in the offseason that it was more difficult to assess Pickett only because of the circumstances around him.
It’s not the same, you know. There are several variables involved. not just the player but also the circumstances. Naturally, there have been some problems with the offensive over the last several years, but we’re happy with Arthur Smith’s current status. It’s difficult to single out one element since there are several of them, Khan added.
During his two seasons with the Steelers, Pickett threw for 4470 yards and ended with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Even though he spent the most of last season as a lock to start, Mason Rudolph’s late-game surge cost him the starting job. Even while the Steelers wanted to claim they had complete faith in Pickett, signing Wilson only served to reinforce their lack of confidence in him.
At the NFL Combine, Khan told the Pittsburgh reporters, “I have complete faith in Kenny.” He has demonstrated some positive traits. There were undoubtedly some problems with the offense, and I’m looking forward to Arthur Smith’s influence on him. Arthur has a lot of hope for Kenny. They have, I know, communicated. There will be fierce competition, so we’ll see how it works out.
The Steelers will now turn over a fresh leaf. It’s the whole quarterback room gone. This implies that they will need to locate a backup somewhere along their journey.
