Texans Expected to Sign Chris Jones, a Free Agent from the Chiefs
Pro Football Network expects Chris Jones, a great player for the Kansas City Chiefs, will sign a free agent contract with the Houston Texans.
Excitement is building as the NFL free agency period approaches. The legal tampering period starts on March 11 and the official start date is March 13. Pro Football Network looked at the best free agents and projected a possible acquisition for the Houston Texans, with clubs ready to enhance their rosters.
The Texans have more over $60 million in salary room and are well-positioned for success with C.J. Stroud leading the offense and a strong offensive line and intriguing young prospects.
Now that the focus is on strengthening their defense, DeMeco Ryans is aiming for a top-tier free agent.
Now for Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, a defensive monster with 26 sacks in the last two seasons. In 2023, Jones tied for the league lead in pass rush win percentage among his peers, while facing more double teams than any other defensive tackle.
Jones is a tempting prospect for the Texans, since he is looking for a big deal. Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like he’s prepared to leave the Chiefs.
Jones finished 2022 with 44 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four passes defensed, and one fumble recovery. He recorded 30 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, and four passes defensed in the next season.
Jones would be a huge asset to the Texans’ 2024 roster if they could somehow obtain him.
Under affordable contracts, Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., the current Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year,
Houston can pursue Jones and keep defensive end Jonathan Greenard at the same time because of its financial flexibility. By making such a deal, the Texans might put together one of the league’s most formidable defensive fronts and establish themselves as legitimate contenders.
