Steelers are expected to pursue quarterback Ryan Tannehill in free agency.
According to reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to consider signing Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill this offseason, which might complicate their quarterback situation going into the 2024 season.
Some analysts have connected QB Ryan Tannehill to Pittsburgh because of his connection to Arthur Smith, the Steelers’ new offensive coordinator, who worked with the quarterback as the Titans’ offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020.
After playing for the Titans for five seasons, Tannehill is a free agent this offseason. After suffering an ankle injury during the season, he started eight games before Will Levis, a rookie, took his spot as the starting lineup.
Coach Mike Tomlin announced a few weeks ago that Kenny Pickett will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers in 2024. However, it was hinted at by both Tomlin and owner Art Rooney II that there will be a quarterback competition during training camp. Backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who inked a two-year contract extension prior to the 2023 campaign, and Mason Rudolph, who guided the Steelers to three victories to end the regular season in 2023, would seem to be contenders for such a competition.
However, Rudolph is also a free agent, so it’s unknown what the Steelers will do with him in the future. NFL free agency kicks off at 4 p.m. ET on March 13.
