Steelers Address Key Needs In PFF Two-Round Mock Draft
This mock draft differs slightly from PFF’s last one, which featured Trevor Sikkema and Connor Rogers of The Stock Exchange. In that mock, the Steelers selected Mitchell first, followed by Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper in the second round. Sikkema has the Steelers selecting center in this mock rather than off-ball linebacker, which is definitely a wise choice this early in the draft.
Mitchell had a first-round rating in Jonathan Heitritter’s scouting report, and the analyst thinks Mitchell will be a good starter.”Quinyon Mitchell is a proven cornerback with versatility who can start in almost any scheme. He has played in a variety of coverages.” Heitritter noted earlier this month, “His awareness in off man/zone coverage and his tackling can both improve, but his calling cards that should help him be one of the first corners off the board are his ability to remain sticky in coverage, contest at the catch point, and compete throughout the rep.”
Given that Pittsburgh is looking for a center this draft cycle, Frazier’s name has been mentioned a lot in connection with the team. Frazier is a guy who might start right away and is probably a Day 2 selection. Mason Cole’s difficulties from the previous season would probably be a nice upgrade in the interior for Pittsburgh.
Frazier is a reliable player with a well-rounded skill set overall. Because of his high floor, he should do well in a man/inside zone strategy. Frazier is a promising talent even if he doesn’t have the physical attributes to be a top-tier center—he doesn’t have the athleticism of a Creed Humphrey. Although it would be fantastic to watch him develop into the next Nick Mangold, Ben Jones—a tough and reliable guy in the center who was never an All-Star—will have to do for me as my NFL equivalent.
Frazier is an extremely tough player with a history in wrestling. It wouldn’t come as a shock if he up in Pittsburgh and became another in a long line of standout Steelers centers.
