Steelers Add Another OL Tyler Guyton In New CBS Sports Mock Draft
Jones fits in well at left tackle, where he was a collegiate player. Midway through the 2023 season, the Steelers moved him to right tackle for the last ten games. Although Jones’ return to the left side is something head coach Mike Tomlin is “undecided” about, the selection of Guyton would probably make that happen.
During his final two collegiate seasons, he played slightly over 1,000 plays on the right side of the ball for Oklahoma. Though he only played left tackle for a limited period of time, he still only played 70 snaps overall. After a strong week in Mobile, he measured in at 6071 pounds at the Senior Bowl and has been rising on many draft boards.
In fact, he made his college debut in 2021 as an H-back against TCU before switching to the tackle position full-time at Oklahoma. With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the Steelers could use more wide-zone runs, so that kind of athleticism might be advantageous.
You may view our Jonathan Heitritter’s in-depth scouting report on Guyton by clicking this link. “Tyler Guyton is made in the mold of what you want your offensive tackle to look like at the NFL level,” he said, seeing Guyton as more of an early second-round player. He’s large, long, strong, and agile, having the capacity of excelling as a blocker in space as well as at the line of scrimmage.”
With just 19 collegiate starts, Jones was considered a raw prospect the previous season. Guyton has only made 14 tackle starts and one as H-back. Guyton will be considered one of the top tackle prospects if he puts up a great showing at the NFL Scouting Combine in a few weeks, following a strong Senior Bowl week. The fact that he is a redshirt junior and one of the youngest tackles appeals to the Steelers.
