Ravens Coaching Staff Decimated by Departures
The coaching staff of the Ravens will appear far more slender.
Anthony Weaver, the defensive line coach and assistant head coach for the Baltimore Ravens, is leaving the team to work with the Dolphins under Mike McDaniel. This means that the Ravens are losing yet another defensive coach. Weaver is only the most recent of several exits following the hiring of Dennard Wilson as the Titans defensive coordinator and Mike Macdonald as the head coach of the Seahawks. Since Zach Orr was named defensive coordinator, the club will require new position coaches on that side of the ball. Orr coaches inside linebackers.
With seven interceptions in 2023, Geno Stone was second in the league overall and first among all NFL safeties under Wilson. With four more from Kyle Hamilton, Baltimore has the most prolific safety tandem in the NFL in terms of interceptions.
In Tennessee, Wilson, 41, will assume the role of defensive coordinator for the first time. In 2012, he made his NFL debut with the St. Louis Rams as a quality control coach. Before joining the Ravens during the latest offseason, he spent the 2015–22 season as a defensive backs coach for the Rams, New York Jets, and Philadelphia Eagles.
Chris Hewitt, the defensive passing game coordinator, ought to be able to assist in covering some of the team’s defensive line deficiencies.
Of course, the Steelers will visit the Ravens twice in 2024. Seattle, Miami, and Tennessee are not included in their 2024 opponent lineup.
