Baltimore Ravens duo handed fines after devastating AFC Championship loss to Kansas City Chiefs | DAZN News US
For the top-seeded AFC team last weekend, things did not go as planned.
To make matters worse, two stars of the Baltimore Ravens were fined for their actions after their team’s 17-10 AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs defense remained firm throughout the game, making it difficult for the presumptive favorites Ravens to score any points in the second half at M&T Bank Stadium.
Although Kansas City also experienced offensive difficulties, the Ravens were harmed by mistakes made on both sides of the ball at critical junctures in the game.
The NFL said late on Saturday that two of those mistakes were needless penalties, which have now led to fines for both players.
Wide receiver Zay Flowers, who demonstrated his talent in the first half with an outstanding score before assuming the role of antagonist late in the game, is the one facing the largest fine of the two.
With the Ravens unable to muster any offensive momentum late in the third quarter, Flowers’ 54-yard reception down to the Chiefs 10-yard line gave them some optimism.
However, Flowers was penalized 15 yards for taunting when Chiefs defender L’Jarius Sneed clutched at his leg at the conclusion of the play. Flowers then tossed the ball to Sneed’s side while flexing over him.
And as if Flowers’ mishandling of the ball at the goal line when attempting to score only four plays later wasn’t awful enough, he has now been fined $10,927 for his actions.
Travis Jones, a defensive tackle, received the other $6,700 punishment for late hits on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the second quarter.
Although Baltimore had stated prior to the game that they would not allow Mahomes to have a simple day, hits like the one that Jones delivered to the former MVP only served to assist Kansas City move the chains throughout the evening.
Flowers, Jones, and the Ravens will now have to watch the Chiefs play the 49ers in the Super Bowl on Sunday from home.
