MASTERS SNOOKER 2024: JUDD TRUMP BATTLES PAST KYREN WILSON IN FINAL FRAME DECIDER TO PROGRESS TO QUARTER-FINALS
In a scrappy contest, defending champion Judd Trump was forced to come from 3-0 down against Kyren Wilson in the early stages to progress. He recovered with five frames on the bounce, but Wilson had a comeback of his own lined up and, if it was not for a costly miss on a red in the decider, he could have sent Trump out of the tournament. Trump was far from his best in lifting the title last year and once again showed he is able to win when not firing on all cylinders at Alexandra Palace.

WHITE HAILS ‘WINNING MACHINE’ TRUMP AFTER TENSE COMEBACK WIN OVER WILSON
Breaks of 52, 101 and 83 helped him wrestle the momentum away from Wilson and draw level before going on to, eventually, book his spot in the last eight.
Both players missed multiple chances in the first frame before Wilson eventually fluked a red from a snooker to take it before ‘The Warrior’ doubled his advantage with a break of 76 in the next after a brilliant opener.

‘He’s gone for the cross-double… and got it!’ – Wilson executes fine shot
Trump looked certain to get off the mark in the third frame until he missed on the penultimate red, which allowed Wilson to pinch it and move 3-0 clear after he nailed a cross-double.

But back came the defending champion. That Trump needed more than one chance will have mattered little as he reduced his arrears to two frames at the mid-session interval before he drew level at 3-3 thanks to breaks of 101 and 83.

‘What a terrific pot!’ – Trump finally ‘finding his touch’ with excellent red
Crucially, a marathon seventh frame also went the way of Trump. Wilson got in first and compiled a laboured 43 before missing, with Trump eventually getting the better of a prolonged safety battle to lead for the first time.
Wilson’s long-potting served him well as he began his attempt to restore parity, but Trump also found some flow at the start of the eighth frame.
However, both players proceeded to make unexplainable mistakes to gift the other an opportunity at the table. As the frame progressed, Wilson’s safety game deserted him and, despite his unintentionally generous nature up to this point, Trump cleared up to take his fifth frame on the spin.

‘What a shot’ – Wilson pots long red on his way to setting up decider
Commentators described the match as a “bit of a grind” and the same theme continued.
Despite Wilson being visibly frustrated at times, he kept himself in the match, taking it to 5-4 as he escaped a snooker and dispatched a pink.
Trump established a 45-point lead early in the 10th frame but a sensational red brought Wilson back into play as he put together a break of 58 to take it to a decider.

‘Significant’ – Wilson in disbelief as he misses red in deciding frame
Wilson went 55-0 ahead in the final frame, but when a red to the middle pocket kissed the jaws, Trump was given the chance to clear up and he obliged to reach the quarter-finals for the eighth time in his career.
