The San Francisco 49ers are getting ready for their Sunday, Week 11 matchup at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In Sunday’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed that offensive lineman Nick Zakelj, a second-year player, sustained a torn biceps and will require season-ending surgery. The 49ers formally placed him on injured reserve on Wednesday, according the NFL transaction wire.
With reference to Zakelj’s injury, Shanahan said, “It wasn’t like your normal tear.” He whined about it nonstop throughout the day about this small one that was high. We sent him in for an MRI, which revealed a small tear, and we sought two opinions. We had to have the procedure since they warned that things would only grow worse.”
Guard Aaron Banks has also been ruled out of this weekend’s game by Shanahan. In the game against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 30, the offensive lineman suffered a turf toe injury.
Correct tackleDuring Sunday’s game, Colton McKivitz sustained injuries to his knee and ankle. He participated in limited practise, and his situation is still day-to-day.
The 49ers Communications staff has given the practise participation reports for both the 49ers and Buccaneers on Wednesday.
