Given all of the stability on their roster, the Los Angeles Lakers were anticipated to start the 2017 NBA season well. However, thus far, the exact reverse has happened.
To be fair, the team’s season has started off with a number of injuries. That hasn’t stopped others from considering other options for the Lakers to bolster their squad, though.
The Lakers could consider making a few trades to strengthen their roster, as NBA analyst Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report has connected them to some well-known players who are now in Chicago.
“The Trade: D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, and Jalen Hood-Schifino for DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, and Andre Drummond.”
DeRozan and the Lakers have been connected for a while, so now might be the right time to make the move to sign him. Since his contract is about to expire, they can cut bait at the end of the season if things don’t work out.
Although DeRozan has never been recognised for his outside shooting and his best defensive days are behind him, he would provide the Lakers with another end-of-game scorer. Aside from his possible fit, his age might make him attainable for L.A.
However, he may offer them a player at the third-star level, and his midrange skills remain incredibly effective. He also provides them with another legitimate scorer, which would greatly enhance their offensive output.
Guard Alex Caruso would rejoin LA as part of this suggested trade, and there have recently been rumours indicating that the franchise is interested in having him return. He would provide them with a solid defensive presence at the top of the perimeter by applying his defense-first mentality.
Through this trade, the Bulls are able to obtain something in exchange for two players who are probably not in their long-term plans. Additionally, Hood-Schifino, a nice upcoming point guard, becomes theirs to use in their future plans.
The Bulls have a need that Hachimura might be able to meet because they decided not to extend Patrick Williams this offseason. Russell helps offset DeRozan’s loss by providing the required salary and scoring punch. A prospect with a rookie-scale contract that is cost-controlled is Hood-Schifino (No. 17).
LA could use the added size, and Drummond would be a great throw-in. They might also try to move him in a different deal.
Overall, this trade increases the Lakers’ chances of winning the NBA championship, so if it is on the table, the head office should give it serious thought. This approach might benefit everyone because fans would support it as well.
