Revised NFL Draught Order for 2024 (after Week 10)
Though they trail the Carolina Panthers by two games for the first pick, the Green Bay Packers have the ultimate tiebreaker—a weak schedule.
The green and gold have now dropped five of their past six games after the Green Bay Packers’ 23-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They play the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs in three straight weeks, so there’s a decent chance their record won’t improve much in the following weeks.
In light of everything mentioned above, I’m sure some of you are asking, “Where do the Packers pick in the 2024 NFL Draught, if it were held today?” This is the current first-round draught order for the following year’s draught, which runs through Week 10 of Sunday Night Football. Recall that the postseason standings of playoff clubs determine their draught positions, which explains why the current qualifiers are divided.
The NFC, which is having a horrible season outside of the top contenders in the conference, currently owns six of the top seven picks, which is one of the most intriguing things about this situation. The Packers’ opponents in the final eight games of the season are the Giants, Panthers, and Bears, who are all presently predicted to select higher in the April draught than the Packers. The order of the draught will be determined by those games.
Strength of schedule (SOS), which is used as a tie-breaker if teams have similar records, will also be taken into consideration when determining draught order. Among the three NFL teams with a record of 3-6, the Packers are predicted to pick first because of their SOS. The only teams with a worse season-long SOS than the Packers right now, including opponents from the future, are the Saints, Dolphins, Falcons, Cowboys, and Eagles. Right now, if the season ended today, four of those five clubs would advance to the postseason. In addition, four of those teams play in the NFC.
These below-average teams will eventually play each other, so how the NFC plays out the rest of the season will determine who will get the first selection in the draught. These games will need to be won by someone. The Bears now own the Panthers’ first-round pick, therefore the Packers are currently two games behind them. However, at the end of the season, the Packers will probably have a tiebreaker over any other team that has a similar record.
