Starting with the upcoming season, Thiago Alcantara will no longer be employed by Liverpool. The English press has reported that the midfield player is out of contract and won’t be re-signed. The midfielder from Spain, who won everything with Bayern Munich in 2020, joined the Reds as a luxury addition. Because of his skill and leadership, it was assumed that his inclusion would mirror the legendary Steven Gerrard, but this was not the case, and the player was never able to establish himself in the starting lineup.
According to reports from England, manager Jurgen Klopp has already informed Thiago that he will not sign a new contract with the squad and that he will need to find another place to live after the current campaign ends. The player has been beset by injuries since moving to Anfield, and they are starting to happen more frequently. This season, despite Liverpool’s third-place finish in the Premier League rankings, he has not even been able to make his debut.
“Thiago is a continuous issue. We hope he would return, I would guess, around the beginning of 2024, but we are unable to put any pressure on him. November has already arrived. That would entail an additional four weeks, but I think that would be a reasonable attempt. His return is something I’m looking forward to. He is a really talented player. Regarding his player’s fitness, Klopp stated a few days ago, “I understand why you asked, but we can’t have a week-by-week update because not much will change at this time.”
Thiago’s prospects
Alcántara might recuperate by the start of next year and be available to his boss again, but the truth is that he won’t be staying at the team, and talks about a potential move to Inter or Juventus are already underway. Both Italian teams are monitoring his development and are hopeful that January will come around before they can arrange for a free signing. The Spaniard has offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS in addition to Serie A.
