Under Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers are unbeaten after their bye week, but it could be in risk because the Jacksonville Jaguars are also coming off a bye week. After their bye weeks, the 49ers will play three of the four teams on their schedule. Given that there is only one bye week for each NFL team per season, this is an unusually high amount. The 49ers have already suffered losses to the Browns and the Bengals, their first two opponents after a bye week.
The Jaguars boast one of the top defences in the NFL, much like the Browns. With eleven interceptions apiece, the defences of the 49ers and Jaguars are tied for the most in 2023. One of the top edge players in football is Josh Allen. With nine sacks, he is tied for the sixth most. Travon Walker, a former first overall choice, is on the opposing side of the Jaguars defensive line. He is one sack ahead of Nick Bosa with 3.5.One of the NFL’s most underappreciated inside linebackers is Foyesade Oluokun. Like cornerback Tyson Campbell, Andre Cisco is a very talented young free safety who is dubious. Even if Trent Williams is healthy enough to play, the 49ers will struggle against this defence.
Zay Jones, a quick deep threat receiver, is missing, but the Jaguars still have Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley. Perhaps the greatest receiver to sign as a free agency ever is Ridley. Isaiah Oliver, the nickel cornerback for the 49ers, has struggled in coverage, and Kirk poses a threat to zone defences. Jamal Agnew could be your lone hope. He has replaced Zay Jones as a kick returner, but he has fumbled at crucial times. Tank Bigsby, a running back, has a similar deficiency in ball security. It might be wiser to feed Bigsby less and Travis Etienne more. Etienne is a strong runner with a low speed of 4.4 and is an excellent receiver.
Following a difficult beginning to his NFL career, Trevor Lawrence has established himself as a reliable starting quarterback. The Jaguars continued to support him and upgraded his equipment. Shanahan would benefit greatly from their strategy. The Jaguars’ offensive vulnerability is primarily in the trenches. They are not particularly good offensively. This might be the secret to reducing their speed.
Steve Wilks, the defensive coordinator for the 49ers, will exit the booth to commentate from the sidelines. I believe that this is an error. I stand by what I said before the decision was made. I hope he shows me incorrect.
Inebo While defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and left tackle Trent Williams are also doubtful, Samuel is cleared to play. The Trent Williams designation is very much in play as left guard Aaron Banks is sidelined due to turf toe. I’m going with the 49ers 24 – Jaguars 21 if he plays. If not, Jaguars 28 – 49ers 17 is what I will predict.
