When Liverpool plays Brentford, Jurgen Klopp says he’s considering starting a 25-year-old player in a different position.
Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that he has been brainstorming ideas for this weekend’s midfield fix for Liverpool.
As the Reds get ready to play Brentford on Sunday, they have a small selection issue. In addition to being suspended, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch have both sustained injuries.
The only people left, theoretically, are Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, and Dominique Szoboszlai. However, given Endo’s poor performance against Toulouse the other night, Klopp made a suggestion that Trent Alexander-Arnold might be used in midfield.
“It is a possibility,” the manager responded when questioned about Trent’s suitability for the middle of the park over the Liverpool Echo.
We are aware that he is capable of playing there, but it all depends on the opposition, the circumstances, and other factors. We would be losing one of the world’s top right-backs if we simply put him there, and that is something we shouldn’t entirely ignore. He is, of course, a possibility for that job.
Klopp acknowledges Trent’s option
Not many people would be thrilled to start Endo in the Premier League this weekend after his terrible performance last night. Klopp will therefore need to think a little bit outside the box.
The obvious choice after that is Trent. Jurgen doesn’t have many options unless he wants to include an academy youngster like James McConnell.
Of course, all of that is OK, Alexander.Arnold obviously enjoys his work and has done it before.
The only issue is that Liverpool loses their right-back, as Klopp states. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue because Joe Gomez has performed admirably this season and usually does a decent job there.
However, given Kostas Tsimikas’s dismal play, Gomez might be required at left back. There truly isn’t a replacement for Trent without the 26-year-old.
Therefore, even though Liverpool is favoured to defeat Brentford handily, the game isn’t as simple as it seems.
The Bees have won their previous three Premier League games, putting them in fantastic form. For the Reds, there is no room for error.
However, you would expect them to find a way through at home. Liverpool should possess the majority of the ball, and Trent has the potential to be a fantastic midfield player. If you give the 25-year-old some time and room, he can be a true weapon. Let’s wait to hear Jurgen’s decision.
