When the 49ers started practise on Thursday, they saw something on the pitch that was welcome. Trent Williams, a left tackle, was wearing a uniform and taking part in the game for the first time since suffering an ankle injury against the Browns in Week 6.
Williams participated in the whole Week 6 match, but he was absent in Weeks 7 and 8. The way head coach Kyle Shanahan described Williams’ injury on Wednesday left fans less than optimistic about the star left tackle’s readiness to play in Jacksonville on Sunday.
Shanahan remarked, “Just when he’s got a lot of history in there with stuff.” “It wasn’t a high (ankle sprain) or anything like that, but when you’ve experienced that throughout your career, there are a lot of things that it’s more than a low for because of how it’s taking longer to heal.”
Williams’ comeback for Thursday’s session was positive in light of this, and it increases his chances of participating in Week 10.
Here’s the full practice participation report:
Did not participate
LG Aaron Banks (toe)
No surprise here. Banks is out a few weeks, but it’s encouraging that the team didn’t put him on IR right away.
Limited participation
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (ankle)
DT Javon Hargrave (knee)
DE Drake Jackson (knee)
LT Trent Williams (ankle)
Neither Flannigan-Fowles nor Hargrave were on Wednesday’s practice report, so their status will be worth monitoring closely into Friday.
Full participation
DE Robert Beal (hamstring)
LB Dre Greenlaw (shoulder)
CB Darrell Luter (knee)
WR Ray-Ray McCloud (illness)
WR Deebo Samuel (shoulder)
CB Samuel Womack (knee)
McCloud missed Wednesday because of an illness.
