The most recent example of Polish players at Liverpool may be Jerzy Dudek’s goalkeeping exploits in the early years of the new century. However, after his departure to Real Madrid in 2007, the name of a football player of that nationality in Merseyside did become unusual, and until these recent months, another player from that nation emerged and gradually amazed Liverpool within its under-21 division: Mateusz Musialowski. Musialowski is being considered for the Liverpool offence, where he can play like the new Robert Lewandowski, or in certain situations like the team’s Lionel Messi.
It is clear that his friendship with Lewansowski stems from his Polish heritage, but as for Messi’s moniker, the player has lived up to it on the field. In his most recent game against Brown, he scored a spectacular goal from the edge of the area that was buried in the upper right corner, denying a rival goalie any opportunity to stop the ball from passing from where he was standing. Numerous social media accounts, such as Sky Sports Football and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, have praised the outstanding goal scored by the Liverpool under-21 youngster.
Musialowski’s strong performance in games has earned him a nomination for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for October. But, the best prize for the Polish player may be the opportunity to be considered very soon by Jürgen Klopp, the club’s coach, who has worked hard to bring in more and more players from the various academy divisions.
The Reds academy continues to grow stronger
Mateusz, who has garnered the most attention from the first team in recent weeks, is not the only young player from the academy with great potential to be tested by Klopp. Kaid Gordon has already been called up for this Thursday’s Europa League duel, so Lewis Koumas, who was nominated for player of the month alongside the Polish Musialowski, could also be on the list.
