Video: Liverpool’s goal against Toulouse that was disallowed and Klopp’s outrage during the press conference
Liverpool lost their match against Toulouse on Thursday, the fourth matchday of the Europa League group stage in France, 3-2. The match was marred by controversy over refereeing, as Liverpool had scored a late equaliser, but the goal was disallowed because of a VAR ruling and the call made by Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov.
The goal disallowed was scored by defender Jarrel Quansah, which appeared to give the Reds an equaliser. However, it was later revealed that Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister had not touched the ball with his hand, despite several shots showing otherwise. Moreover, according to UEFA’s own rules, if the ball contacts the player’s body before going through another portion of it, it cannot be called a handball.
After this loss, Liverpool is still leading the group with 9 points, but they will need to wait until the next match to advance. This means that their first team players will be under more strain, and they will have a tough match at Anfield in the coming weeks against LASK Linz.
Klopp’s enmity
Following the game, German coach Jürgen Klopp gave a press conference where he acknowledged that his team did not perform well and was not up to the task. However, at one point, his expression changed and he was clearly angry as he was interrupted by the noise made by the home team’s supporters, which is uncommon in a stadium during a European competition.
