Defensive catastrophe versus Toulouse and Klopp’s latest addition to address it
On Thursday in France, Liverpool’s encounter was one to forget.
On Thursday, Liverpool lost their match against the French in the fourth round of the Europa League group stage. The Reds were outclassed and never able to perform to their full potential, particularly defensively, where they made numerous mistakes that German coach Jürgen Klopp attempted to address with a number of changes, but it was obvious that he needed reinforcements.
Greek centre backAfter the French team’s first goal was missed by Kostas Tsimikas, the German coach decided to switch him out for Joe Gomez at left-back. However, the Englishman struggled and was also hurt in the home team’s second goal, which sparked rumours on social media that Liverpool would need to sign a defender in the winter due to Andy Robertson’s long-term injury.
Joel Matip of Cameroon was the other defender who struggled on Thursday. He was slow to cover and anticipate, and he also missed the captain, Virgil van Dijk, who was absent due to illness. It is unknown how long van Dijk will be out until Liverpool’s match against Brentford at Anfield on Sunday.
Klopp’s reaction
According to a TEAMtalk report, Liverpool has their sights set on Real Sociedad center-back Robin Le Normand. Both Premier League clubs have taken notice of the 26-year-old defender due to his impressive performances, who has been on a steady upward trajectory in recent years. In 2016, Le Normand joined the B club of Real Sociedad after beginning his career at Brest, a French team. He was promoted to the main team in 2019 after demonstrating excellent play in the B team, and he has been an important member ever since. Over his career, he has made 190 appearances for the Spanish team and scored 11 goals. He has been a mainstay in the starting lineup this season.
