Could Jacksonville beat San Francisco without Trent Williams in the Jaguars vs. 49ers game?
Will the finest left tackle of his time be unable to play against the Jaguars on Sunday?
This season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have saw a number of players make their debuts and comebacks. In terms of injuries, there haven’t been many instances where they were fortunate enough.
But the Jaguars’ fortunes could finally change in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite missing Weeks 7 and 8 due to an ankle injury he suffered in Week 6, All-World left tackle Trent Williams has established himself as one of the greatest offensive lineman of the century and a vital component of the 49ers’ organisation. Additionally, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan sounded pessimistic about Williams’ recovery from the bye on Wednesday.
“Yes, it seems evident that there is. Just when you have— he has a lot of past with things, you know. It did not manifest as a climax or anything similar. Williams’ ankle ailment kept him out of practise on Wednesday, but Shanahan added, “When you’ve had that over your career, there’s a number of things that, with how it’s taken longer than expected to heal, it’s more than a low.”
Shanahan responded, “I hope so,” when inquired about Williams’ practise plans for Thursday.
Williams’s status is obviously one to watch, since he is a 10-time Pro Bowler and has been selected to the First Team All-Pro for the past two seasons. Outside linebacker Josh Allen of the Jaguars lines up on the left side of the offensive line more often than not, accounting for nearly 85% of his snaps. Backup left tackle Jaylon Moore has only given up three pressures while replacing Williams.
After just half of the season, Allen leads the Jaguars with 9.0 sacks, almost matching a career-high. Williams’ health could be the main injury story of the week because Allen is enjoying a career year and a season worthy of Defensive Player of the Year.
