The head coach of the Chicago Bears is ridiculed on social media
It is no secret to anyone who has seen the Chicago Bears this season that head coach Matt Eberflus frequently stammers and loses his line of thought at press conferences.
The most recent oddity involving Eberflus occurred on Wednesday when he was asked to give an update on starting quarterback Justin Fields of the Bears, who is injured.
Fields suffered a dislocated right thumb against the Minnesota Vikings last month, which has kept him out of action for the previous three weeks. Fields made a limited comeback to practise, and it was anticipated that he would be ready to go into tonight’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Fields was listed as doubtful on the injury report, but Eberflus first ruled him out while speaking to reporters on Wednesday. Confusion resulted from the Bears beat writer pressing Eberflus to elaborate on that point.
In 2023, a Bears head coach is being made fun of on social media for failing to decide on his quarterback before the game. Rather, Eberflus put himself in a difficult situation by announcing—without being questioned—that Fields would not be starting tonight and that Tyson Bagent would.
There is evident frustration growing among those who cover the Bears as a result of Eberflus’s struggles in his conversations with their beat journalists, which is not the first time this has happened.
When the Bears meet the Panthers tonight, Bagent most likely will still start for the Bears. However, it appears like Fields will get at least one more evaluation before to the game, if there is any lesson to be learned from Eberflus’ most recent speech error. Fields might make an unexpected debut if he receives the all-clear medically. After the game, Eberflus will probably find himself in an unhappy press room if Fields ends up starting.
