Roquan Smith gives the Bears a harsh warning.
“Man, it makes me so happy, just knowing my career is not going down the drain.”
Star linebacker Roquan Smith was dealt by the Chicago Bears to the Baltimore Ravens last year. Furthermore, it would be a vast understatement to say that Smith is happy the trade went through a year later.
Roquan Smith was frank in an interview this week about the impact of the move, expressing satisfaction that he is playing for a team where his “career is not going down the drain.”
Smith said to SI.com’s Abert Breer, “Man, it’s pretty crazy thinking back to when I was initially traded.” “Knowing Chicago was bittersweet for me, and rightfully so.” However, I honestly wouldn’t have been able to challenge for a title very soon if I had stayed there. It took me a few weeks after I moved here to fully appreciate how well-balanced this squad was, how many excellent players it included, and how they consistently bring in extremely talented players. And when I consider it from the standpoint of having the chance to compete year-round with the quality we possess.
“Wow, it makes me so happy to know that, in terms of playing somewhere where I’m not really competing for a title, my career is not going to be destroyed.”
It goes without saying that Smith feels that if he had stayed in Chicago, his career would have been rather wasted. But he’s happy that he’s with the Ravens and has a real shot to compete for championships now.
