Deebo reacts to Mahomes’ claim that the Chiefs’ defence is the greatest in the NFL.
Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan, hosts of “49ers Talk,” discuss whether Brock Purdy will recover against the Jaguars on Sunday.
Sunday, after his Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in Germany, Patrick Mahomes made a daring statement abroad.
Mahomes praised the Chiefs’ defence, saying, “I think it’s the best defence in the NFL.” “I can assure you that if we have a defence like that, we will figure out this offence. We’re going to be a formidable opponent.
Deebo Samuel, a receiver for the 49ers, commented on the remarks on Tuesday’s episode of “Up & Adams Show.”
Kay Adams, the host, heard Samuel say, “Suit yourself, man.” Everyone will, in my opinion, believe they have the best defence and offence in the league. If not, why not? I’ll make the same statement. We possess both the greatest defence and the best offence in the league, in my opinion.
During the team’s bye week, the 49ers added defensive end Chase Young to their roster through a trade with the Washington Commanders. Young should give the struggling 49ers defensive line some extra oomph after the team finished with just eight games with just eight sacks, good for 24th in the league.
“It should be very interesting adding this young fellow to the team who is playing at a high level,” Samuel stated. He is generally well. We are going to examine our options.”
The lineup of San Francisco is strong, particularly on defence. Young was previously selected second overall. The NFL’s strongest one-two punch at linebacker is arguably Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw, but Nick Bosa is the current defensive player of the year.
Samuel and the 49ers’ confidence hasn’t wavered despite the team’s current three-game losing run because of the talent on the squad.
Samuel told Adams, “I don’t think [the confidence] went down.” “In the end, we are aware of our limitations. We had a few small hiccups in our early going. That is what will occur. Not every one of them will be won by you. All you need to do is prepare in the same manner that we have been preparing, step by step.
“A big emphasis on takeaways and staying on the pitch and sustaining drives – just getting back to what we’re doing.”
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Samuel and the 49ers have an opportunity to get back on the winning track. Samuel is expected to play at TIAA Bank Field despite missing San Francisco’s final two games prior to their bye week.
