Bears OC Luke Getsy: Bryce Young’s pre-draft pleased us much.
The Bears were able to select Bryce Young in the draught this year after securing the first overall pick.
However, Chicago decided to trade the pick to Carolina in favour of keeping quarterback Justin Fields, a 2021 first-round selection.
Now, on Thursday night, the Bears will play Young for the first time. Before the team distributed the pick, on Tuesday, Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator for Chicago, mentioned that the staff was impressed with Young’s performance during the pre-draft process.
“Yes, he impressed us a lot,” Getsy stated, as reported by Josh Schrock of NBCSportsChicago.com. “His pro day was quite outstanding, and we were there as well. Precision came easily. The youngster found that his ability to get the ball out quickly, regardless of the distance—under 20 yards or under 10 yards—was what really stood out. He exhibited many of the desirable qualities that make a guy a natural passer.
Young’s debut season has not gone as planned; in seven games, he has completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,375 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. After throwing three picks, including two pick sixes, against Indianapolis on Sunday, his passer rating is now 77.1.
With the Panthers’ 2024 first-round pick, the Bears have an opportunity to move up in the draught order if they win tomorrow night, even though it’s unknown if Fields or Tyson Bagent will start.
In the unlikely event that the Bears land at No. 1, they may decide to utilise it on a quarterback.
