Ryan Gravenberch, a midfielder for Liverpool, has a path back into the national squad, according to Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman.
The Dutch setup has frozen Gravenberch out after he turned down a call-up in September.
The 21-year-old had only recently joined for Liverpool and wanted to concentrate on getting used to his new environment. Even though it was merely a U21 call-up, the Netherlands’ decision-makers weren’t shy to express their rage.
However, Gravenberch has been doing well for the Reds, so a reckoning has been unavoidable. Furthermore, Koeman said yesterday night on Dutch TV via Voetbal International that he had now spoken with the Liverpool player.
The former Everton manager stated, “We didn’t like that [refusing U21 call-up], but that’s in the past.” “Gravenberch was phoned by me prior to the pre-selection announcement to inform him that he was not included in the list, even though Nigel (de Jong) had been at Liverpool. However, if he keeps improving like he is today, he will sign with the Dutch national team.
However, I have stated that I want to work as much as possible with the group that has already completed it during the month of November. He is a midfielder who will undoubtedly be considered if he begins to play more. He was the same at Bayern Munich, but it doesn’t make sense to choose him if you saw every weekend that he wasn’t playing or wasn’t playing very much.
Gravenberch is set for a Netherlands return
Gravenberch’s initial exclusion from the team felt like a huge mistake on the part of Koeman and company.
Yes, declining an international call-up is never a good look. However, Ryan’s response was reasonable considering the situation.
He wanted to make sure he started off at his new employers on the right foot in order to prevent it from happening again, having had a bad experience at Bayern and fallen out of the Dutch senior team. Astute.
However, Koeman didn’t see it that way. He has also turned his nose up at Gravenberch for the last two squads, despite the fact that his team isn’t exactly loaded with elite midfield players at the moment.
Thankfully, it appears that all of that is going to pass. Liverpool’s No. 38 will not play in the forthcoming games, but it appears that he will be back in the mix the following time.
That’s exactly what Gravenberch deserves after shown remarkable talent over the last few weeks.
Despite the challenging match against Luton Town on Sunday, the youthful midfield player was one of Liverpool’s most remarkable players.
Hopefully, this small extra push will enable him to perform at a higher level once more at Anfield.
