Jamie Carragher’s assertion that Liverpool cannot contend for the Premier League title this year has been refuted by Chris Sutton.
During a segment on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, the pundit expressed confusion at the former Anfield defender’s recent assertion that the Reds lack sufficient players to contend for the league.
After a forgettable night in Bedfordshire, Liverpool this weekend left it late to secure a point away at Luton Town, where Luis Diaz’s late heroics ensured the Reds return to Merseyside with something.

Liverpool still has what it takes to contend for the Premier League, notwithstanding the outcome, and Sutton is optimistic that the Reds will succeed in doing so.
Regarding Carragher’s remarks, Sutton remarked, “Do I think Liverpool will win the league? Nope. Do I honestly believe Liverpool is capable of making a challenge? Sure, I do.
“I don’t understand why Jamie Carragher dismissed them like that. Even though Luton performed admirably and showed great resilience in their play yesterday, Liverpool nevertheless lost a lot of excellent opportunities.
Liverpool must have faith in their ability to contend for the Premier League

For Liverpool, this is very much a transitional season; few supporters would have even dared to raise the possibility of them contending for the championship this summer.
But after 11 Premier League games, Liverpool finds themselves in third position, trailing only Manchester City and Tottenham—who, history suggests, won’t be there for long.
After taking a year off last season, Liverpool needs to feel confident that they can contend for the championship, and this season will be as good as any to showcase their newfound identity.
