This weekend marks Liverpool’s return to Premier League play, and the manager has a variety of alternatives for his starting lineup going to Kenilworth Road.
The Reds will visit Luton on Sunday for the first time since 2008, and following Curtis Jones’ three-game suspension, Klopp can welcome the player back to the league.
The midfield player’s availability is still unknown, though, since he was not visible at Friday’s Kirkby training.
Here is a possible lineup for Liverpool versus Luton.
Team news
During the contest preview, the manager informed us as follows:
- Luis Diaz has returned to training but will not be ‘forced’ into action
- Thiago is expected to be out until the new year
- Stefan Bajcetic is also “not ready yet”
Liverpool’s XI vs. Luton
Given that Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are now starters in the Reds midfield, his position is essentially the only midfield berth up for grabs.
Due to his ongoing family crisis in Colombia, it is also unclear if Diaz is expected to start; Diogo Jota is most likely to play on the left of the front three.
For the Reds, it might look like this:
- Kostas Tsimikas to start in an unchanged back four that beat Forest
- Gravenberch to keep his league spot alongside Mac Allister and Szoboszlai
- Jota to join Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah up front
This is Liverpool predicted line up:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Jota
If Diaz and Jones are able to play, the lineup would appear a little different, with their spots probably being the only two that are in doubt.
Before his suspension, Jones was playing well, and if a spot opens up, he’ll aim to return to the midfield trio.
After training with the team this week, Diaz has cemented himself as the team’s first-choice left winger when healthy.
Here is how an alternative XI might look:
- Diaz to join Salah and Nunez in the forward line
- Jones to regain his place in midfield
- Back four to remain unchanged from the last league outing
This is how Liverpool would alternatively line up:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
The manager will continue to benefit from a plethora of options to choose from inside the ranks and the flexibility to utilise five substitutes.
Liverpool, who are playing well, should have no trouble defeating Luton, who appear destined to spend the majority of the season in the bottom three.
The Reds are moving forward this season thanks in large part to their robust internal rivalry and current lack of lack of momentum.
Take all three points, please!
