Liverpool supporters may witness a 16-year-old playing for the main squad this coming season very soon.
Young Trey Nyoni has been establishing himself since coming from Leicester City in the summer. Nyoni is only 16 years old, but his promise has already earned him a first-team training call-up.
And as was evident in yesterday’s most recent “Inside Training” video on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, young Trey has managed to hold his place among the team’s stars.
Prior to the Reds’ Europa League match against Toulouse last week, he received his first call-up. There was no way Nyoni was going to be in the team for that one, as the teenager was actually not allowed to play.
However, Klopp has clearly noticed something that he finds appealing. Being back in Liverpool’s Europa League group before of a Premier League match is a whole different ballgame than just training there.
Nyoni’s inclusion in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Luton Town is improbable. However, the video from yesterday’s practise showed the young man getting on the ball and biting into tackles. Undoubtedly, a premiere is imminent.
Nyoni retains his first-team spot.
Like Ben Doak the previous season, Nyoni’s ascent through Liverpool’s youth ranks has been extremely quick.
Although he hasn’t publicly introduced himself like Doak did just yet, a senior debut doesn’t seem all that far away at this point.
Trey should get his opportunity if he continues like he is currently, since there is still a lot of the season left.
But there shouldn’t be a rush on that. Liverpool currently has a wealth of midfield options, and in Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic they have young players who can also continue on the tradition.

There are a lot of people that look the part, including James McConnell, so Nyoni is not alone.
Every now and then, though, a child emerges who simply feels unique. Both Nyoni and Doak do as well as they did.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano described the former Leicester prospect as a “talented” midfielder upon his signing [Twitter]. He certainly appears to be that.
Trey is starting to draw a lot of attention, so it won’t be long until Klopp is questioned in public about Liverpool’s newest possible star. His response will be really fascinating.
