Lakers of Los Angeles
There was a lot of excitement this offseason when your Los Angeles Lakers signed Cam Reddish. This was the team’s first opportunity to bring Reddish into the Purple and Gold after they had been attempting to do so for some time.
Although he hasn’t been able to live up to the initial buzz around him after graduating from college, he still has time to establish his value. He has been given a wonderful opportunity from the start and this year with LA is considered as his prove-it season.
Jarred Vanderbilt’s injury has kept Reddish from playing as much as he had anticipated this early in the season. However, he is aware of that this is how it is in the life of a role player, and he spoke on his current position on the team.
“Like, your role could change every day in the NBA,” Reddish said. “Injuries, a lot of things that can go into it. I just try to stay ready in all aspects, prepare for anything, prepare for the worst. Whatever my role is that night, that’s what it is and I do it to the best of my ability.”
While he is still young, Reddish has been around long enough to understand that his number could be called upon at any time, in multiple different ways. It’s what being a role player in the NBA is all about, and Reddish is trying to cherish the opportunity being granted to him.
The Lakers want him to play aggressively, and be active on defense. If he can do both of these things, he will likely remain on the court. He is surrounded by a lot of talent on this Lakers team and has even been taken under the wing of point guard D’Angelo Russell so far this year.
“So now, you got an opportunity. You got a bunch of vets, a bunch of guys that can help you. Listen. Do more. Do the opposite of what you’ve been doing.”
If Reddish can continue to provide the team with valuable minutes in his limited time, it will greatly benefit him down the line. Head coach Darvin Ham loves players who are multi-faceted, so this is a chance for Reddish to show what he can do.
