Trent Alexander-Arnold, the right-back for Liverpool, is a teenager that plays for Leeds United.
Paul Robinson, a former goal9 for Leeds and England, feels that 17-year-old Archie Grey has the makings of a Trent regen.
Robinson claimed that Grey is “clever enough” to mimic Liverpool’s erratic full-back in an interview with MOT Leeds News.
The pundit asserts, “The manager is obviously aware that Grey is a utility player.” There may be a hybrid midfield role involved if he wishes to add Ilia Gruev but does not want to let go of Archie Grey.
“Rico Lewis, John Stones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and other players in the Premier League frequently exhibit it, and I believe the manager believes Grey can perform at that position as a right-back.
“He’s a smart enough football player to pull it off. He gets caught out a few times defensively, but it provides him the chance to press into midfield and fill that job.
Trent-like comparison for Grey
Grey is clearly a Leeds player at the moment, but he’s someone to watch.
There is currently no indication whatsoever that Liverpool is making an effort to force the teenager to leave Elland Road. However, considering what Robinson writes above, maybe they should be.
Grey, who just turned 17 in March, is already a consistent starter for Daniel Farke’s team.
Given that Leeds lost to the Championship at this time last year, it isn’t as impressive as it once was. It may be argued, however, that a young talent like him would have an even harder time making his teeth in the second level.
As the West Yorkshire team competes at the top of the Championship, Grey hasn’t appeared at all out of place thus far.
The young player, who is the grand nephew of Leeds icon Eddie Grey, has appeared in 13 games so far and has started all but two of those contests.
Grey was originally used in centre midfield, but Farke has recently moved him to right back.
It will be intriguing to watch how Grey progresses from here. He is undoubtedly a smart football player and a decent ball handler. Alexander-Arnold isn’t a bad role model, if you ask me.
