Following the screamer against Bournemouth, Michael Owen makes claim regarding Darwin Nunez.
Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, may not have reached his full potential, according to Michael Owen.
For the Reds, Nunez has had an outstanding start to the season. With his last spectacular goal against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, the Uruguayan now has seven goals in 14 outings.
These kinds of data highlight the ‘unbelievable’ potential Owen sees in Nunez. However, the former Liverpool striker asserted in a post this morning that the 24-year-old is still “rough around the edges.”
The 43-year-old claims that Darwin Nunez’s goal on Tuesday night (Wednesday) “sums him up at this stage of his career.”
“Somewhere in there is an incredible player, but he’s still very rough around the edges.”
Owen makes Nunez claim
This has been a fairly constant story since Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer.
Because it is evident to all that the Reds’ No. 9 has potential to be extremely good. Darwin has what it takes to rise to the top of the field.
He obviously has to be guided through the process of combining those items, though.
That’s OK, and Jurgen Klopp has stated as much right from Nunez’s early days at the club. He was never going to become a household name.
The Uruguayan striker nevertheless had a strong rookie campaign with some impressive stats. 15 goals in all competitions, all scored during open play, is a promising beginning.
Nunez, though, seemed to have made more progress this year. He has every intention of easily surpassing his 2023–2024 productivity.
Darwin’s impressive performance against Bournemouth last night is just another indication that the team is prepared for takeoff.
He is no longer a child, at the age of 24. This claim that he’s still “rough” or “raw” ought to start to fade by the end of the current season.
Nunez might not score goals like the one he scored against the Cherries on a regular basis. But as more and more things become clear, we ought to eventually witness the player we all thought he was capable of being.
