What happened between Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane following their match last night
Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson, two former Liverpool players, squared off in last night’s King’s Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Al Nassr, led by Mane, faced off against Henderson’s Al Ettifaq in the Saudi domestic trophy quarterfinals.
The encounter had a distinctly Liverpool character, with Steven Gerrard leading Al Ettifaq and Gini Wijnaldum, another former Red, in the starting XI.
But in the end, Mane and Al Nassr emerged victorious, with Sadio scoring the game-winning goal in extra time to advance his team. Additionally, the match-winner and Henderson shared a beautiful moment that was noticed by the Al Nassr Zone Twitter account after the game.
Mane, Henderson, and a third man wearing Liverpool’s away shirt from the previous season are positioned between each other in what appears to be the locker rooms following the match.
As Henderson and the Reds supporter raise the Senegal forward’s No. 10 shirt, Mane gives them a big smile and a thumbs up. After the game, according to Al Nassr Zone, the former Reds forward gave his old captain the shirt.
Henderson clash is won by Mane.
We’ve already seen some of this this season because so many former Liverpool players are now employed in Saudi Arabia.
In fact, Henderson and Mane had already faced off against one another in the season’s first match back in August.
The two had previously shared a pleasant encounter when they ran into one another at a promotional event.
The little things in life serve as a constant reminder of how close-knit the Liverpool of old really was.
With all the excitement going on amongst the fan base over Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Liverpool 2.0,’ old idols sometimes tend to fade a little.
However, it’s important to remember that players like Henderson, Mane, and Wijnaldum served as the cornerstones for the team that emerged victorious.
It’s strange to watch them compete after spending so much time playing together.
It’s evident that the relationship created on Merseyside endures, at least in rivalry.
