According to James McConnell, Harvey Elliott is helping the adolescent Liverpool player with his training.
With McConnell making his senior squad debut this season, the 19-year-old midfielder spoke to the Reds’ official website and revealed that the Liverpool first-team player was offering him advise and ideas during training.
“They [his teammates] also give me little tips,” McConnell remarked. Harvey, for example, helped me when I didn’t really understand some of the positional issues.
One of Liverpool’s most highly regarded young players, McConnell made his debut under Jurgen Klopp last week in the UEFA Europa League. He may play in tonight’s League Cup.
Receiving guidance from Elliott will also be very beneficial, as Rio Ferdinand recently praised the Liverpool young player for his “tremendous” cameo against Everton in the Premier League.
In fact, McConnell is already gaining from Elliott’s training because the 20-year-old midfielder appears to have assumed a leadership position among Liverpool’s younger players.
Elliott mentoring McConnell is huge for Liverpool’s future
Some players find it difficult to develop leadership skills, but Elliott appears to have inherited the quality from the start, having entered the senior game at a very young age.
Additionally, the England youth international is currently imparting knowledge to younger kids, with McConnell currently picking up tips from the Liverpool player.
These tiny developmental milestones can have a significant impact, and McConnell’s mentorship by Elliott will be essential to the teenager’s ascent to the senior team.
