Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino believes his side have struggled to get going this season because so many changes were made in the summer.
Chelsea’s difficult start to the season has left them 11th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening 10 matches, the most recent being a 0-2 loss at home to Brentford.
The London team’s difficulties come despite their huge spending since Todd Boehly took charge of the club in 2022. During the summer transfer window, the Blues recruited Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer and Axel Disasi, among others.
Pochettino believes too many changes have made it difficult to consolidate his squad as they prepare for the January transfer window.
“At the moment, I think we are a young team, a young team which means there have been too many changes this summer because of the circumstances and we are struggling – sometimes there are good and bad results, but the performance remains unchanged,” he said at a press conference.
The Argentine also called on the owners to learn from the “mistakes” they have made since arriving here, saying: “The things that are against you, you have to try to fight them and survive.
You must be calm and strong. And don’t lose balance, because it’s easy to blame or say something that will affect others and lead to division in the club.
