Liverpool and the new sporting director reach an agreement, but there’s a catch
The Reds might yet run into issues.
At this time last year, Liverpool’s prospects were not too good. The Reds had experienced quadruple disappointment—including a heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Real Madrid—as well as struggle and failure to finish in the Premier League’s top four. One year and a complete new midfield later, however, and Jurgen Klopp’s side are back on course to regain their best form.
Off the field, the Merseyside team may be making even more adjustments as they aim to win the Premier League for the second time ever and establish themselves as title contenders. And one of those adjustments might be an agreement to ultimately replace Michael Edwards permanently.
News on Liverpool transfers
It’s safe to say that Liverpool needed a major midfield makeover after parting ways with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita during the summer. Thus, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister joined, followed by Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, who added even more flair to Klopp’s chic new team. And those at Anfield have been flying again since then.
The fact that their successful summer transfer window was orchestrated during a turbulent time off the field at Anfield by interim sporting director Jorg Schmadtke adds even more credence to their achievement. But with a more long-term solution on the horizon, that may be coming to an end. Max Eberl and Liverpool have reached an agreement, according to French publication Sports Zone.
In what could be a big setback for Liverpool, the leaving sporting director of RB Leipzig reportedly has an agreement in place with both Bayern Munich and the Reds. He favors a move to the Bavarians. However, Bayern will have to wait for the gardening director’s leave to expire before moving forward, giving the Reds more time to finalize a deal.
The top signings of Max Eberl
If Liverpool were to welcome Eberl on board, they would be gaining one of the most spectacular sporting directors in Europe. The former Leipzig player was instrumental in the Bundesliga team’s ascent, bringing in players like Xavi Simons and Lois Openda. Meanwhile, he was in charge of shaping Marco Reus into a legend at Borussia Dortmund.
It seems sense that Bayern and Liverpool are vying for Eberl’s services. With players like Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, and others, the Reds have already largely laid the groundwork for future success, so they would be especially encouraged. However, the hiring of a renowned sporting director ought to go a long way toward preventing the necessity for a rapid rebuilding when one post becomes short.
Over the years, the purported target has received a lot of recognition for his efforts. Jan Aage Fjortoft, for example, wrote on X, saying, “Shakhtar – Gladbach 0-6.” In the next two years, Coach Marco Rose may visit a club near you. Max Eberl, the Head of Sport, is among the greatest in the field.
Having said that, it appears like the next several months will be exciting and could culminate in frustration for Liverpool should Bayern achieve their goal.
