Locals have marched through the streets to demand the release of Luis Diaz, who was abducted on Saturday; authorities have not yet been able to find him.
Local reports state that a bunch of motorbike riders took control of the family van and abducted Luis Manuel Diaz in the wee hours of Saturday.
Cilenis Marulanda, his wife, was also in the car but was quickly rescued. Police and military personnel are still looking for Diaz Sr.
Authorities are searching mountain ranges and woodlands because they believe Diaz Sr. may have been taken to Venezuela. They are also offering a 200 million peso reward for information.
Following the kidnapping, Diaz was given compassionate leave by Liverpool; up until Tuesday, the winger had not made any public comments about the matter.
The 26-year-old revealed on Tuesday the specifics of a march to seek his father’s release that took place in Barrancas, the town where Diaz’s parents were abducted.
Hundreds of locals marched through the streets for the occasion, led by Marulanda. They carried balloons and dressed in white, and when they arrived at the Diaz family home, prayers and candlelight were said.
Schools in the town are temporarily shuttered, according to the Colombian publication Semana, and a sit-in was also organised in support of the Diaz family.
According to reports, police dogs have been brought in to assist in the search for the player’s father and his kidnappers, and it is believed that Diaz Sr. is being kept in the Serrania del Perija forest.
According to a different Semana report, “the kidnappers are fully identified,” raising the prospect that they are now under pursuit by the authorities.
On the advice of his family, Diaz has stayed in the UK the entire time, although he is not anticipated to be connected with Liverpool anytime soon.
