Three Liverpool players are permitted by FIFA regulations to negotiate with new teams.
Due to contract expirations at the end of the current campaign, Liverpool Football Club may have to wave goodbye to four more players in 2024 in addition to the five it said farewell to last summer.
Before the 2023–24 season began, Jurgen Klopp oversaw a significant roster restructure in response to fan requests to strengthen the midfield.
As four more players approach the last six months of their Liverpool contracts and become available to speak with interested clubs in 61 days when the winter transfer market starts, more moves are anticipated in January and the summer.
The contracts of Adrian, Thiago Alcantara, and Joel Matip expire on June 30, 2024, and since Liverpool does not intend to transfer them in January, they will be released for free.
Conor Bradley would have been on this list, but after reaching a personal agreement for a new contract in July of this year, Liverpool is planning to extend his terms.
Four Liverpool players are permitted by FIFA regulations to negotiate with new teams.
FIFA regulations now permit them to initiate talks with interested teams without requiring approval from Liverpool, so they may start organizing their next transfer moves.
This is clarified by Rule 18.3, which addresses the “Maintenance of contractual stability between professionals and clubs”.
The regulations stipulate that: “A club intending to conclude a contract with a professional must inform the player’s current club in writing before entering into negotiations with him.”
Players may, however, openly negotiate with a different team “if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six months.”
Which teams are hoping to sign Liverpool’s upcoming free agents?
Thiago Alcantara
The Saudi Pro League showed an interest in Thiago Alcantara throughout the summer. The Spaniard turned down all offers to stay at the team for his last season, despite being heavily touted to join Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in moving abroad.
Thiago has yet to play for the Reds and is still sidelined due to injury, despite his choice to remain on Merseyside. He hasn’t yet returned to training, despite expectations that he would after Liverpool’s international stars got back from national team duty.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona is “attentive to the situation” and may arrange a reunion with the Camp Nou supporters during the summer transfer window as the 32-year-old’s contract is about to expire. Their interest in the summer may also lead to a transfer to the Saudi Pro League.
Joel Matip
After eight years at Liverpool, the center back will be leaving with every trophy imaginable.
Due to his perseverance, the Cameroonian has produced some unforgettable performances despite several injuries that threatened to end his career at the highest level.
Matip’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, although the only transfer rumors that include him are about prospective successors.
Adrián
The goalkeeper’s Liverpool contract was about to expire in the summer, but the team decided to extend it so he could finish the current campaign as a West Ham player.
It remains to be seen if he will be kept beyond 2023/24 but that is likely only to be decided at the end of the season.
