Dominik Szoboszlai, a midfield player for Liverpool who was excellent against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, has been praised by Neil Mellor for his ball-running skills.
The 23-year-old’s performance over the weekend, which saw Szoboszlai provide two assists in a 3-0 victory over Steve Cooper’s team, impressed the former Anfield striker, who was speaking to LFCTV GO.
Szoboszlai’s strength on the ball surprised Mellor, who also gave him the usual credit for his midfield work. The Hungarian proved to be a very athletic player.
For Liverpool, the former Bundesliga player has been a revelation, and commentators are beginning to notice how excellent Szoboszlai’s current playing is overall.
“What I really like about him is that he sets us off on the attack and is such a strong runner with the ball,” Mellor remarked. “On that particular day, Darwin Nunez beat him for sprints forward.”
“He just fits what Liverpool is all about; he reads the game really well, intercepts the ball really well, and influences games really well.”
Liverpool has benefited greatly from Szoboszlai’s athleticism.
Even though few people anticipated the Hungarian midfielder to be as athletic as he is, Szoboszlai’s reputation as a dead-ball expert was well known before the Hungarian went to Anfield.
Though injuries could be imminent if Jurgen Klopp isn’t careful, Szoboszlai is a dream player for any manager, and his fitness has already proven to be the difference maker for Liverpool this season.
However, Szoboszlai’s physicality on the pitch has been exceptional, and not many Liverpool supporters would have imagined the Hungarian to be as skilled with the ball when sprinting at high speeds.
