The absurd explanation for why Alisson was not named the top goalkeeper
In the PL, Becker is the greatest.
The Yashin Trophy, which honors the best goalkeeper of the previous season as determined by France Football magazine, was not immune to controversy regarding its 2023 winner. Following the announcement that Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa had won the trophy, social media was quickly flooded with criticism alleging that Allison Becker should have been included among the top ten goalkeepers of the year.
Maybe Becker’s performance with Liverpool in the first half of the 2022 season is the reason he isn’t ranked among the best in the world, but despite bad runs for both the Brazilian and his team, he was always one of the best, providing the Reds with a number of crucial points that allow them to compete in the Europa League today.
The other factor that ended up affecting the Reds goalkeeper was his participation during the last World Cup in Qatar with the Brazil national team, being eliminated from the quarter-final round by a Croatia team that finished their participation as third after beating Morocco, a team that also cannot believe that Yassine Bounou has been third of the award.
For many it is obvious that goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez won the best goalkeeper award because of his performances for the Argentina national team, but even though he has been a factor in some World Cup matches for the Albiceleste, Dibu in the Premier League is not the same every time he wears the shirt of Aston Villa, a team with which he has experienced from own goals to goals that leave him in a bad position as a world champion goalkeeper.
Becker needs no such accolades Â
As well as many Reds fans agreeing that the list is incomplete with Becker’s absence, they also claim that these types of awards are rigged to have their winners chosen from the start, with the Argentine national team under attack from many because as well as seeing Dibu’s award as incorrect, many also expect Erling Haaland to be robbed against Lionel Messi in the fight for the Golden Ball, an award in which Mohamed Salah inexplicably came in eleventh place.
