49ers injury reports before the bye week
The 49ers’ Week 8 loss to the Bengals on Sunday marked the end of their first half of the season. They will now take a much-needed week off during their bye to rest a few guys who were hurt on Sunday or earlier.
On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan took the team’s injury updates on a conference call:
LG Aaron Banks (toe)
This is a serious setback for the offensive line of the 49ers. Banks is expected to miss a few weeks due to a turf toe injury he sustained during the Bengals game. He will therefore be absent following the bye week. Whether he will place himself on injured reserve is unknown.
LB, Dre Greenlaw (shoulder)
After battling numerous ailments in 2023, Shanahan reports that Greenlaw is currently dealing with a shoulder strain that will keep him down. Although Shanahan has not said when he will return, he said the week off will allow him to get the rest he needs.
LT Trent Williams’s (ankle)
Williams’ ankle hurt and the team didn’t want to push it, so he didn’t even work out before Sunday’s game. After a full week off, Shanahan expressed optimism that Williams will be ready to rejoin the team for practice in time for Week 10.
Brock Purdy
After only five days, Purdy was cleared from the league’s concussion protocol and left Sunday’s game without suffering any head injuries. Although Shanahan claimed the quarterback did not disclose any concussion symptoms and was not checked for a head injury, it did look like he struck his head late in the game.
