Less than twenty-four hours remain until the NFL trade deadline, and the Dallas Cowboys don’t seem to have anything major cooking. They’re obviously not in dire need of assistance after destroying the Los Angeles Rams in all three phases of the game to win 43–20 and extend their winning streak at home to 11 games and their 2023 record to 5-2.
This is especially true given their winning percentage differential this season.
The Cowboys’ depth at critical spots has virtually saved the day on numerous occasions, as evidenced by their first six games, and there are still players deserving of snaps who are putting up a fierce battle to acquire them.
Head coach Mike McCarthy isn’t under any pressure to complete a trade at that moment.
He stated on Monday, “We have a personnel meeting today.” “But it’s not the right question for me to ask. What interests me is the men’s growth within the building. That’s precisely what I really think. I’m not crossing my fingers while I sit here hoping that we can trade for someone.
“I don’t personally feel that way. I have faith in our men.”
One year after reaching an agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it plain last week that he was content to play the role of an aggressor during this trade season.
Even after witnessing the terrifying film that his group produced on Sunday, he remains unchanged.
“I think it’s fair, accurate to say that it doesn’t look like we’ll be doing anything,” Jones added.
Still, he qualified the statement by saying that everything is possible.
“However, we completed it with less notice than we are currently facing,” he continued, before returning to his first argument. “Bottom line is it doesn’t look like we’ll be doing anything.”
Time will tell, of course, but if the Cowboys have anything under wraps, time is running out. As they head into Philadelphia this week on a two-game winning streak, it seems like there are no tricks this season, only treats.
