One of the most expensive players at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Fernandez, missed his first Premier League game while coaching Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino.
Recall that on January 31, 2023, Enzo Fernandez signed a contract with Chelsea, just over a month after he assisted Argentina in winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The West London team was so keen on him that they paid an incredible €121 million for his talents, shattering both the club and Premier League transfer records at the time.
Prior to Brentford’s 2-2 tie at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 28, the 22-year-old Argentine center-midfielder had never missed a Premier League match because of the substantial amount of money the club’s owners, Todd Boehly and his consortium, spent for his services.
When Brentford was playing, why didn’t Enzo Fernandez play?
Due to an injury scare, Chelsea’s coach, Mauricio Pochettino, disclosed prior to the Brentford match that Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, a Ukrainian winger, were left off of his starting lineup.
The coach said to Chelsea’s official website, “We hoped they would be okay to be in the squad, but unfortunately, they aren’t quite ready.”
“We didn’t want to take any chances, but neither of them is a major problem.”
On Wednesday, November 1, at 8:45 p.m., Chelsea will play Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Cup third round. Both players are anticipated to be back in the starting lineup.
A day prior to Chelsea’s match against Brentford, on Friday, October 26, Enzo announced the birth of Benjamin, his second kid, on his Instagram page.
