49ers fall to 2nd place in NFC West after 3rd straight loss
The 49ers’ margin for error has completely vanished following their third straight defeat. They are in second place in the NFC West going into their Week 9 bye, a position they haven’t held since the middle of the previous campaign.
With a 5-2 record going into Sunday, San Francisco led the division by a half-game. At 4-2, the Seattle Seahawks trailed closely behind. The 49ers were unable to replicate the Seahawks’ dominance against the Browns against the Bengals. The current NFC West rankings are as follows:
1. Seahawks (5-2)
2. The 49ers (3-5)
3. Rams (3–5)
4. Cardinals (1–7)
If the 49ers have any positive news right now, it’s that the Rams aren’t a concern right now. They have the head-to-head tiebreaker and are up by two games.
It won’t be simple to chase the Seahawks, though, particularly if San Francisco can’t get their act together by the conclusion of the bye week. They still have two games remaining against Seattle in Weeks 12 and 14, so as long as they keep up with Seattle until then, they should have chances to win the division again in head-to-head matches.
